2020 Fire Calls
2020, November 8: Structure Fire, Rozelle Road, Harding
Saturday afternoon, Mt Zion Rescue/Engine, Tanker 1, and Special Operations responded along with units from Harding Fire, Harding-Mt Zion Ambulance, Exeter Fire, Franklin Fire, Lake Winola Fire, Northmoreland Fire, West Pittston Fire, and West Wyoming Fire responded for a garage fire. Upon arrival, a storage building was fully engulfed. Some nearby brush and a large pine tree were also burning. The fires were extinguished, and all personnel returned home safely.
2020, October 3: Kitchen Lane Residential Structure Fire
Early Saturday morning, Mt Zion Fire, along with Harding Fire, was dispatched for an unknown type fire with unknown location. Caller was on Rozelle Road and could a large fire to the north, towards Appletree Road. Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper and Tanker 1 responded within five minutes with Mt Zion Tanker going down Appletree Road to try to find the fire and Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper going to Rozelle Road to try to get a better fix on the fire. Upon going down Rozelle, Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper saw large flames in the distance in the area of Tina's Way or Kitchen Lane. Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper request a first alarm structure box to be on standby (Franklin Fire, Lake Winola Fire, West Pittston Fire, West Wyoming Fire, Harding Mt Zion Ambulance). Mt Zion Assistant Chief Tillman discovered the location on Kitchen Lane thirteen minutes after the original dispatch. Assistant Chief Tillman reported a working, fully engulfed structure fire. Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper and Tanker 1 arrived on scene four minutes later. Northmoreland Fire, Trucksville Fire, and Medic 29 were added to the call. Unfortunately, due to the large head start the fire had, there was little that could be saved of the home.
2020, August 31 and September 1: Standby for Nanticoke/Hanover Township
Early Monday, August 31, Mt Zion Tanker 1 was requested to standby in the area of Nanticoke and Hanover Township. An 18 inch water main had broken. Pennsylvania American Water Company was unsure where the break was at that time. All that was known was that all of Nanticoke, parts of Hanover Township, Glen Lyon, and Plymouth Township were out of water. As fire companies do, Mt Zion was ready, willing, and able to help out. Our 3000 gallon 1250 gpm Pumper/Tanker was located near the Hanover Twp/Nanticoke line to provide water if needed.
2020, August 13: structure fire in Exeter Borough
In the early morning hours of August 13, Mt Zion Tanker 1 responded to assist Exeter Fire with a residential structure fire at Birchwood Village. Mt Zion Tanker 1 assisted with 1000 gallons of water from the 3000 gallon tanker.
2020, March 6: Rozelle Road brush fire
Mt Zion Rescue and Brush Truck 1 responded for a brush fire on Rozelle Road. The less than one acre fire was quickly contained and extinguished despite the dry, windy conditions. Also on the call with us were Harding Rescue, Franklin Township Tanker and Brush Truck, and Harding Mt Zion Ambulance.
2020, February 21: Brown Street Cornfield Fire
Mt Zion Tanker 1 responded for a cornfield fire that was a little over 1 acre. Between Harding Rescue and Mt Zion Tanker 1, about 400 gallons was used to extinguish all hot spots on this fire.
2020, February 22: Field Fire off Perry Road
Mt Zion Rescue/Engine and Tanker 1 responded for a field fire off Perry Road. We used about 800 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and thoroughly soak the ground.
2020, February 6: Mt Zion Rescue and Special Operations responded for a MVC on Rt 92 between Angelina Lane and Oberdorfer Road.
Mt Zion Rescue responded along with Harding Rescue, Harding Mt Zion Ambulance, Medic 29, and Exeter Township Police for a MVC on Rt 92. The vehicle hit a utility pole in front of the Harding Church of Christ, causing the pole to be cracked and breaking off two of the insulators from the top cross-bar. The top two high-tension power lines dropped down, one coming to rest on the lower cross-bar and power line. The other came to rest on the top cross-bar. PPL was notified through Luzerne County. Mt Zion Fire Police along with Mt Zion Special Operations remained on scene until PPL completed repairs to the power lines.
2020, January 17: Mt Zion Rescue and Heavy Brush (AKA Tanker 2) responded for hundreds of cars on fire at Tabit's Scrapyard
Schott Glass Fire in Duryea
On March 3, 2015, Mt Zion Rescue responded with several firefighters to Duryea to assist with a commercial structure fire at Schott Glass. After doing some interior work, some of our firefighters pause for a quick selfie...bunch of hams!
Mutual Aid Response Exeter Borough
12/22/12- 12/23/12 on both the 22nd and 23rd both Tanker 1 and Tanker 2 were requested by Exeter Command for the large pile of mulch on fire. Day 1 units operated for approximately 3 hours to contain a large pile, and on the second day, large amounts of foam were used as it was still burning.
Its been proven, what goes up doesn't always come down!
6/8/12 at 15:58 hours Mt. Zion fire along with Harding fire were dispatched for
2 men trapped in a lift approximately 70 to 100 Ft in the air. Pittston City Fire
was automatically requested to be dispatched on the box for their tower ladder
along with ambulance 529. While Pittston city set up for the rescue Intown units
controlled a moderate spill of hydraulic fluid which was spilt due to an
incident with the machine. Once the men were extricated they were brought to the
ground and taken to the ambulance for evaluation due to the extreme heat. Units
operateted for a little over an hour before returning.

Tanker Task Force Assignment
Tanker co. 229 Was dispatched along with The Tanker Task Force into Pittston Township to assist on the Working Structure Fire off of Suscon Road. Unfortunatly The structure wasnt salvagable but units worked without injury/incident.
