2021, March 23: Rubbish/Vehicle/Brush fire on Oberdorfer Road

At 2:44 PM on Tuesday, March, 23, 2021, Mt Zion Fire was dispatched along with Harding Fire, for a rubbish fire on Oberdorfer Road. Shortly after Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper went en route, Luzerne County notified fire units of vehicles involved in the fire and fire spreading to brush. Within minutes of Mt Zion Rescue/Pumper arriving, we soon realized we would need more water. Franklin Tanker was requested for water supply. Also requested were brush units from Lake Winola and Franklin as the winds picked up and spread fire into the woods. Northmoreland Tanker and Engine were also requested to assist along with DCNR Forestry. Fortunately, the winds did not sustain, allowing the brush fire to be extinguished. A large, dead oak tree in the center of the fire had flames high up in the branches. A DCNR Forestry Sawyer assisted with safely cutting down the tree which got hung up with several times in nearby trees.

We want to thank all those who assisted us with this fire, including some nearby neighbors.
